Approximately 8 years ago I remember my mum broke the news that she was about to go into surgery to me. It turns out her left eye had developed cataract and it needed to be removed.

Even though I wasn’t the one suffering the ordeal, it made me concerned about my own sight. Will I develop cataract too? Just imagining a knife cutting through my eyes is enough for me to do my research!

And here are my findings: Preventing cataracts from developing is really quite simple. There are mainly two parts.

1. Nutrition.

2. Sunglasses.

The second part is easy. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun, which extensive study have shown prolonged exposure of which is harmful for the eye. With one caveat.

The first part – nutrition – is the more interesting subject that I want to explore.

When I mention eye vitamins, people tend to immediately think of vitamin A. Other more sophisticated, savvy consumers may think of some other vitamins that, theoretically, is beneficial to the eyes.

I, on the other hand, always refrain from recommending one specific vitamin. The reason is simple. It’s because all vitamins have a part to play even if they don’t directly benefit your eyes!

So, for example, we all know vitamin A is good for your eyes. But did you know that carrots don’t contain vitamin A? It contains beta-carotene, which is a raw material your body uses to convert to vitamin A. For your body to convert beta-carotene to vitamin A, it needs a whole slew of other raw materials.

And guess what? For your body to use that vitamin A, it again requires a whole slew of other raw materials.

So do yourself a favor and consume whole foods only! Whole food contain all raw materials your body require, some of which are not even identified yet. If you want to consume supplements, make you buy those that based on whole foods.

You can easily find that information from reading the ingredients list, of course. Easy.

Over the years of sharing techniques of natural eye correction, I have had quite a few common questions that arise. So as to save both my time and yours, I thought I would address them in a series of blog posts. Ready?

Today’s question is perhaps THE most common one: What should I do first? It’s the same question any beginner would have in any field. They are simply overwhelmed with this information they learned – they simply don’t know what to apply. This is why most courses – on anything on you can think of – does nothing for you.

To prevent that from happening, I’ve decided to share with you an important concept all successful business owners know: the 80/20 rule. The 80/20 rules states that in most cases, 20% of the cause is responsible for 80% of the results.

Think about it: the top 20% of the richest people commands 80% of the wealth. 20% of a business’s customers is responsible for 80% of their sales. 20% of a student’s studies are responsible for 80% of his knowledge. And so on and so forth.

The same is true for eye correction. 20% of all the techniques that you apply with be responsible for 80% of the results. This knowledge is great – it allows you to focus on that 20% to yield the most results, and thus making the best use of you time.

The question, of course, which eye exercises are in that 20% and which are not?

Here’s a short list that, in my opinion, you should focus on. Remember, this list is my experience only, they are certainly NOT conclusive. Do try them out.

Always follow that 10/1 rule. That is, rest your eyes for 1 minutes every 10 minutes of intense use. “Intense use” includes staring at the monitor/TV. This can be difficult to implement but once you establish it as a habit, it will get easy. Click here to read more about how improve your vision by resting your eyes.

Cut down the amount of time you wear your glasses. If at all possible, don’t use them. Of course, if you’re doing something dangerous, such as driving, please do wear them. Click here to find out more about how glasses prevents you from rebuilding your vision.

Do the eye exercises. They take only 30 minutes a day and are extremely powerful in helping your correct your eyesight.

Meditate daily. 10 minutes a day could do wonders both for your eyes and your life. Because the truth is, meditation relaxes you (including your eyes) and help you focus on what you really want. Click here to read more about the connection between your mind and your eyes.

That’s all! Isn’t that easy? Notice there’s no mention of vitamins and the like? Other than the program, there’s literally no cost for natural eye correction! And the best part, my recommended program comes with a 365-day guarantee.

The first cardinal rule of better vision is to stop wearing glasses. If you can’t see without your glasses, then go get one that’s 2 to 3 degrees weaker than then one you’re prescribed. This allows your eyes to relearn how to see the way nature intended. Glasses are also a source of strain because when the optometrist test your eyesight, he/she is testing it for a fixed distance away. When you wear your glasses to see distances shorter than what’s tested, it produces strain on your eyes because your eyes have to adjust. Unfortunately, most of us spend most of our time seeing things in close distance – things such as TV, monitors and books.

Keep a log of you progress. Your progress is expected to be small so generally speaking, most people simply lose the motivation because they don’t see any improvement. On the other hand, obssessive tracking will also obstruct your motivation because you’ll see a period of stagnation. My recommendation is to keep a weekly log of how your vision has improved.

Surround yourself with people who are supportive of what you do and divorce yourself from people who don’t.

Every once in a while look to outside your window and see something far away. If you’re surrounded by four walls, close your eyes and imagine you are in open area.

Do eye exercises religiously. Make it as enjoyable as possible. You can do this by turning on the air-conditioner, play a bit of relaxing music and even perhaps light a scented candle.

Last but not least, reward yourself if you follow the schedule. This keeps you going.

Do you know what’s the 80/20 rule? If so, do you know how it applies to vision therapy?

The 80/20 rule states that for everything that you do, 20% of your effort results in 80% of your achievements, while the rest of the 80% of your effort results in the rest of the 20%. This rule generally applies to any type of endeavour you undertake.

Businesses often generate 80% of their revenue from 20% of their customers. Body builders built 80% their muscles from 20% of their workouts. And people who rebuilt their vision have 20% of the eye exercises to thank for 80% of the result.

The problem, of course, people often don’t know which 20% the cause is responsible for 80% of the result. In this article, I want to show you the essentials of vision therapy – the things that if you implement, will generate 80% of the improvements you’ll see. Ready yet?

Reduce the amount of time you wear your glasses. If at all possible, get rid of it all together. If you can’t see without your glasses, then at least get one with lower degree – about 2 -3 degrees lower. Your glasses are like crutches – if you don’t get rid of them, your eyes will never again learn to see. Doing eye exercises all day long wouldn’t do you any good if you don’t first do this.

Breathe. Believe it or not, holding breath is a much more common practice than you think. Try this: Every time you feel stressed out (stress is the most common cause of bad vision), close your eyes, keep your lips close but leave your teeth apart and breathe abdominally. Do this for a short 5 minutes and you’ll be all relaxed.

Palm. This is probably the most effective vision therapy out there and it’s easy to implement. Close your eyes and place your palm over them to block out the lights. Breathe. When you palm, imagine anything that would relax you. It’s a good idea to set a timer for this practice or you’ll always be wondering how long you’ve done it for – which then in counter-productive. I prefer to palm for at least 10 minutes, three times a day… or anytime I want to relax.

Stop wearing sunglasses (unless absolutely necessary) and expose your eyes to sunlight. Too little sunlight is just as harmful as too much. Every morning, when the sun is at its gentlest, close your eyes and face the sun. While you’re sunning, slowly swing your head sideways. How long you do this is up to you but always remember to stop if it hurts. Sunning is a relaxing exercise and if it hurts, that means the sun is too strong.

So there, 4 steps to a more effective vision therapy. Do this 4 things and you’ll probably accomplish 80% of your vision improvement attempt. The problem, of course, is that you have to implement it religiously – which many people fail to.

In one of the most spectacular research, Anna Gislen discovered how sea gypsies constrict their pupils in deep water instead of the usual reaction to expand them. The difference in constricting the pupils and expanding it, determines whether one could see under water or not.

This research showed just how much your brain affects your sight. Truth is, it’s not you eyes that determines whether you can see or not. It’s your brain.

Scientists have been able to send “sight signals” through the tongue of blind subjects and allowed him to “see”. In other words, his brain can now interpret taste as sight. If you’re myopic, or if you suffer from the common eye problems, the problem might lie in your brain, not your eyes.

The thing about the brain is that practice makes it perfect. Blind subjects who learn Braille often quickly forget what they learned when they take a “blitz” approach (like a student studying for exams). But if they took their time and keep learning, they master the skill.

If you keep staring, if you keep refusing to blink and if you continue breathing shallowly, then your brain will learn these “skills” and make them a habit. Once it’s a habit, then it’s difficult to change – thus the impression that myopia and such are not curable.

So far the attention has always been given to the eyes. Now I want you to perceive the problem a little differently – look at your brain. Eye exercises are meant to train your brain just like frequent diving trained the brains of the sea gypsies. Eye exercises don’t “strengthen” your eye muscles.

When one mentions of “vision correction” there’s a tendency to think there’s something wrong with the eyes. Bu did you know that your eyes are the ones actually doing the “seeing”?

They are merely windows in which light rays passes through. These light rays are encoded into brain signals that are sent to the visual cortex (the part of your brain that processes these signals). The brain then decodes those signals and generates the images that you see.

In trying to correct their vision, most people try to fix the window. After all, we’ve often been told that because the window is wrong, light rays landed on the wrong part of the eye. Right?

But the truth is, your brain is the one that causes the window to be wrong in the first place. Why? Because it adapts to the environment you’re in. If you’re spending most of your time doing close range work, and you’re always under a lot of stress, then your brain will adapt and send signals to your eyes to make it myopic.

The key to natural vision correction, therefore, is not in correcting the eyes. It’s in correcting the brain. For starters, here’s what you can do:

As much as possible, get rid of stress. People who are stressed have higher incidence of eye problems.

Try to focus on one task at a time. Studies have shown that multi-tasking decreases productivity and places unnecessary strain on your eyes.

For every 50 minutes of work that you do, palm for 10 minutes. This eye exercise is a great way to rest and restore your eyes.

There’s a reason why stuffing your face with carrots doesn’t hep improving your vision. It’s because few people suffer from bad vision because they did not consume enough vitamin A.

Vitamin A is an abundant vitamin. It’s found both in meat and vegetables. In vegetables, it’s known as beta-carotene, a component that can be converted in vitamin A by your liver.

So if the lack of vitamin A is not the reason why your eyes are deteriorating… then what is?

Strain. Unnatural way of seeing places strain on your eyes and thus deteriorates them. Some examples would include staring and leering. These habits are also enforced by the norms of the current society. Think about it. Stress, multi-tasking and poor nutrition are just some of the things that can directly be traced to poor vision.

Strain, of course, causes the eye muscles to get tensed chronically. The goal of eye exercises, therefore, is not to “strengthen” the muscles of the eyes. On the contrary, the goal is to relax them.

Repetition is the mother of all skills. If you do something enough times, you’ll eventually master it. Eye exercises are designed to simulate proper vision habits. If you do them enough times, you’ll eventually learn how to see to correctly subconsciously.

And before you know it, your vision would have improved.

Now, some people will inevitably ask if strain causes vision to deteriorate, then why doesn’t it improve when you sleep? The reason is simple: Because the strain is chronic. It’s just like a cramp on any part of your body. Does it heal when you sleep? No!

In fact, they often get worse! To cure the cramp, you’ll have to relax the muscle. The same principle applies to improve vision.

Let me start with a little story. Stick with me and you’ll see how profoundly important this is to eye exercises.

Do you know of a man known by the name of Galileo Gelilei? Yes, the man who discovered that earth circled the sun and not the other way around. Did you know that even before him, people have always known that something was wrong with the calendar of that time? Every June or so it would start to snow and people in Europe, knowing that it’s not supposed to snow at that time of the year would roll back their calendar to the “correct date”.

Even the Pope did that.

If you were an astronomer at that time, the belief of that day would have prevented you from discovering the truth… even though you intuitively know there’s a problem there. Why? Because the very definition of astronomy is the study of how the sun circled earth. That’s a fundamental assumption that everyone accepts.

And that assumption was made way back in ancient by Aristotle, the man who invented the calendar. For thousands of years, even as man progressed in the field of science, no one ever questioned it. Until, of course, a man by the name of Nicolas Copernicus came along and theorized otherwise.

Galileo merely used his invention, the terrestrial telescope to prove it; he did not discovered it. Having the proof he needed, he publicized his finding.

But guess what the Pope did? He threathened Galielo of imprisonment because his findings is “inconsistent with the bible’s teachings (which is entirely untrue). Dismayed and afraid, Galileo kept quiet… until, of course, the Pope died and was replaced with the next Pope.

And by a stroke of luck (or so he thought), the guy who next became Pope was his college room mate. So guess what? Thinking he’s now safe, he released his findings once more. Because, hey, he’s my friend. He won’t persecute me right?

Boy, was he wrong. This time, Galileo wasn’t just asked to keep quiet. He was placed under house arrest and tried for heresy… until the day of his death.

So what has this got to do with eye exercises?

Do you see the many similarities of that story with the optometry industry today?

There’s a belief that the only way to improve your eyesight is through laser eye surgery or you have to wear glasses your whole life. If you go to a conventional optometrists, you’ll never learn the truth either. If you felt that there’s something wrong with the norms of today, do something about it! Try the alternative. Try eye exercises.

If it doesn’t work, at least you can say that you’ve given it your all. At least you’re not just a sheep following a blind shepherd!

And if you think the people in power today wouldn’t allow that to happen to you… read that story again! The people in power always try to stay in power by denouncing a revolutionary breakthrough. That’s just the way it always has been. Why? Because revolutions affect the people in power the most.

Imagine the change eye exercises would bring to the optometry industry if it was made mainstream… I don’t know about you, but I’d say the government, optometry associations and even rich people with businesses in the optometry industry would hate it!

If you still don’t believe that eye exercises, click here for the numerous verifiable testimonials. Don’t be just another astronomer. Be the Galileo of your time.

If by “secret”, you’re looking for magic bullets, then I’m sorry to have misled you. The “secret” I’m talking will certainly will you improve your vision through eye vision exercises but it will in no way improve them immediately.

In fact, the secret I’m about to reveal to you is about keeping you motivated for the long term. You see, natural vision improvement is a lengthy process and if you don’t keep yourself motivated long enough… you’re going to give up and fail. Then you’ll claim that eye exercises don’t work!

From my experience, that’s where most people fall.

So how do you keep yourself motivated for the long term?

For starters, you’d want to enjoy the process, not just the goal! This applies to all parts of your life. If you HATE doing something, you just wouldn’t bring yourself to do it.

For example, people who are healthy are healthy because that’s their goal… sure that’s part of the reason, but for the most part, they are healthy because they LOVE their greens and exercising.

Do you get what I mean?

So ask yourself this question. What can I do to make eye vision exercises fun? You can listen to music, do it when you’re in a hot tub or burn some essential oils to relax yourself! I personally snack and listen to my favorite music when I perform eye vision exercises!

Do whatever it takes to get you motivated and you’ll be on your way to perfect vision.

For those of you out there who are just starting out vision exercises, I know it can be a little overwhelming. Just about two years ago I was right where you are. Truth to be told, I felt like giving up. There are so many things to learn about natural vision improvement that sometimes I felt it’s easier to dismiss them as quackery.

Lucky for me, I was desperate enough to keep moving forward.

For those of you facing the problem, here’s my advice: Take little steps. Don’t try to do all the vision exercises because you’ll find them overwhelming. Here are the three that I recommend you start with:

Palming. This is probably the easiest of all vision exercises. I have a friend who have perfect doing this everyday – and she is not even aware of natural vision improvement. When I asked her why, she said it relaxes her eyes. Definitely start with this.

I know it can be hard to do – especially if you’ve been wearing glasses your whole life – but if you’re starting out, try to cut down the amount of time you wear your glasses. A cripple would never learn to walk again if he doesn’t try to stand on his legs without his crutches!

Last but not least, try to blink every 3 to 4 seconds. This is can difficult to do because believe me, people who have eye problems don’t blink enough. It will take sometime to adjust but once you picked it up, it’ll be a good habit of yours. You won’t even notice you’re doing it.
